Halloween Clothes

October is the month of months – perfect weather: it’s cool but you don’t need a jacket, it’s warm but you don’t sweat profusely. Fall flavors: pumpkin, apple, cinnamon. Fall clothes: jeans, vests, long sleeve shirts. And Halloween! Kids talk about for months and months what they’re going to be, you find the perfect costume to buy (or make) and then they wait and wait to wear it. There are a few costume-optional events leading up to Halloween (for example we went to Davis Farmland’s weekly Halloween party last weekend and it was great!) but really it’s a painful month of waiting excitement leading up to the one big night. To help things along I’ve picked up a couple cute Halloween clothes for my kiddos to wear all month to get a little of their Halloween fix in. Here’s a round-up of some really cute options. That pumpkin shirt from Target was like $5 or something, definitely snag one before they sell out!

1. Zara Boo dress (Zara has tons of adorable, non-traditional Halloween clothes for kids, check out the whole line!) 2. Target neon orange pumpkin shirt 3. H&M Bat bow tie 4. Old Navy Halloween undies 5. GAP onesie (teething is scary especially when it wakes your baby up at 5am every day for a month…eeeeeek!) 6. Zara ghost pants 7. GAP Halloween socks 8. H&M ghost dress 9. Zara costume party top

The Sixth Fall Fashion Favorite – Lace-up Flats

Remember last week when I pulled together my five favorite fall fashion favorites? Well, turns out there are 6 fall fashion favorites, but SIX didn’t really go with the alliteration of my catchy title so I decided to do a separate post for the sixth favorite. This one is in fact the best of all and the newest trend that you (I am sure) have seen everywhere this summer and now fall. Lace-up flats. All summer it was the lace-up gladiator and now there are adorable lace-up flats everywhere. Do you have a pair? Here are some of my favorites.

Loeffler Randall (if only I actually needed these, love!) / ASOS (I bought these, they run small but are so cute and practical for a SAHM) / ZARA  / Topshop

Topshop / Steve Madden / Anthropologie (this comes in 5 different colors!) / free people

Five Fall Fashion Favorites

Ok, now that it’s officially fall – meaning both the calendar AND the temperatures say so (around here anyway), I thought it was time I share my five fall fashion favorites of 2015.

1. Plaid. Plaid is everywhere lately (even more so than last year) and I have fully started participating. I have been wearing the Old Navy top for weeks, even with white pants in late summer as ta great transitional outfit. Are you buying any plaid for fall?

2. Slip-on sneakers. This fad isn’t new either but there are SO many options this fall for adorable slip-on style sneakers.

3. Backpacks. I told you my story of backpacks and have a few sourced here. By the way, I chose the Urban Outfitters tote backpack and I absolutely love it!

4. Overalls. I know this trend has been alive for a few seasons now, but I feel like the modern fit and shape (slim and shapely on top, skinny leg) has finally been perfected that you can find really great overalls inexpensively. I bought the black overalls from Old Navy but if cost wasn’t an issue I would have gone for these Citizens of Humanity overalls, but $400, really?

5. Flair Jeans. I hold on to my clothes for years and years so I actually still have some flare jeans but in case you’re in the market, here are a few great options. My favorite pair of flares from a few years ago were from H&M, their denim is surprisingly great quality and clearly holds up well if I wore them years ago, still have them, and am pulling them out to wear this season.

Those are my Five Fall Fashion Favorites, what are you wearing this Fall?

Goodbye, Summer!

The end of summer is always an inevitable bummer. We had a particularly awesome summer (summer of us) that ended with a big bummer (accident) so we decided to really live it up as best we could on Labor Day weekend. We were down in Newport, RI and made sure to do all of our favorite things…

One last beach day…

“mommy, take a pick-cha of my toys…”

…a picnic at Newport Polo. This wasn’t a huge highlight as it was crazy crowded and both our littles ended up spitting up and my husband and I both got hit…but hey, we hadn’t been yet this summer (we did go last summer too!).

Walking down Thames Street, popping into shops…

Dinner at Diego’s our fave Mexican place, I almost always get the quesadilla, Z gets the calamari, and my husband gets the enchilada of the day.

And last, it was a little breezy some nights so we dressed in some fall fashion to get us in the mood for fall! You were a good one, Summer of 2014!!!

Fall Trend – Plaid

To be perfectly honest, I’m not sure how I feel about another fall trend I’ve been seeing around – plaid. See, in high school I wore a plaid uniform skirt every day. Every. Day. My only other uniform bottoms option was a pair of plaid dress shorts. You read right – dress shorts. Only these weren’t the modern-day, short, cute, dress shorts, these were old fashioned, knee-length pleated shorts and in all honesty they were actually plaid culottes.  Exactly.

Ok – either way, I was wearing plaid on the bottom every day of high school (minus a few uniform holidays every year) – that’s a lot of plaid. So, when I have been seeing plaid pop up everywhere this season, it’s with mixed emotions that I jump on this trend. I have searched high and low and have found a random assortment of acceptable-in-my-book plaid items for your viewing pleasure. And – because I’m in a sharing mood this week, I have also included a photo of an actual photo of me in my high school plaid. PS. there is no photographic evidence of me ever wearing the culottes so don’t even ask. =)

1. You already know how I feel about smoking slippers, so these Joie Pointed Toe Smoking Flats in Daydreaming Plaid from Bloomingdale’s are a plaid YES! 2. This Penfield Wayland Denim Trail Shirt from Madewell is adorable, just enough plaid to say you’ve participated in the trend. 3. I am sort of obsessed with iPhone cases so this cute blue plaid iPhone case from Society 6 totally made the list. 4. These kate spade Saturday Skinny Jeans in Painted Plaid are so cool, they don’t even count as traditional plaid. 5. Who could pass on these classic Ray-Ban – Original Wayfarer Sunglasses in Top Red with a little hidden plaid on the inside? Not me! 6. I had to include this Marc by Marc Jacobs Preppy Nylon Aimee Plaid Mini Natasha Bag – he is all over the plaid trend this season and used this class red plaid everywhere in his designs.

high-school.jpegSorry it’s so tiny (I have no photos of me in my uniform it turns out, I ripped apart the basement searching!) and I’m sitting on my car – that’s a story for another day! But, you get the idea of the plaid – plus I’m wearing knee socks guys.

Fall Trend – Army Jackets

Nothing is more of a fall staple than a cool army jacket. Army jackets are just everywhere right now, right? I like how army jackets are really becoming cutting edge with a lot of mixed materials being used like leather, beading, patches, and cool zippers.

Also, since army jackets are so masculine, I always like to style the jacket with a feminine flair – maybe a lace top underneath, wear with jeans and a high heel, or wear with a traditionally girly color like pink. Here’s a round-up of some great army jackets out now.

1. I’m starting with this Globetrotter Utility Jacket from Forever21. It’s a great example of an army jacket with personality – and it reminds me of my fave Zara army jacket I wore at Assembled last month. It’s also only $35, for real. 2. I love the Cotton Canvas Jacket one from H&M, when the jacket is fully zipped the collar stands up and looks very chic. And that long thin patch is perfect. 3. The Mixed Media Jacket by BCBGeneration at Nordstrom is just fabulous – the traditional army green jacket but with black leather sleeves. Love this one! 4. This Combination Jacket with Zips from Zara is such a modern take on the traditional army jacket, don’t you think? 5. The Outbound jacket from Madewell is the loveliest color green – and this jacket has buttons, which I think is the way to go when wearing the jacket open. 6. And of course I have to get my Z in on this trend so she can wear this Coat with detachable lining from ZaraKids. Technically it’s from the boys department, but that’s the beauty of an army jacket, they’re ambidextrous.
