Cold Weather Must-Haves – Scarves

It’s been downright arctic in my neck of the woods lately – what about you? I have found over the years that the more appropriately dressed I am the less the cold bothers me. Gone are the days when I wear my ballet flats year-round (cold ankles!). I also think you really get used to bitter temps. That first terribly cold November day feels like your you will never stop shivering but by January you’re like “eh, what’s 20 degrees, no big deal.” Personally I find the more I’m outside the quicker my body gets used to the cold temps. All of that said… I have some cold weather must-haves that I love and I thought I’d share with you in the next few weeks. This week, everyone’s winter MUST – a scarf! I love a cozy scarf and here are a few that I have and love or are on my “list.”

1. This kate spade Saturday Cableknit Pocket Scarf is genius! You don’t necessarily need gloves, you can just use the little pockets at the bottom of the scarf. 2. A chunky scarf. I love the scarves made by etsy seller LuluLoves. 3. Blanket scarves are all the rage this winter – they’re perfect for travel too when you start off needing a scarf and can convert to a blanket to get even cozier. I like this plaid one from Amazon of all places. There are a million way to wear these, just search on Pinterest. 4. Nothing better than the classic Burberry scarf. I’ve had mine for years and still wear it all the time. 5. Nothing says cozy more than fur. This Toscana shearling infinity scarf from J. Crew could be worn with everything all winter.

What are your favorite scarves?

What to Wear – Memorial Day

I am so excited that this weekend is Memorial Day – the start of summer – and a 3-day weekend! Do you have any plans? We’ll be heading to the coast this weekend maybe take a few walks, have a picnic, play on the playground, and of course….wear white jeans. Now, I know that old fashioned rule of “no whites before Memorial Day” is obsolete, but white jeans still mean summer to me. I love a bright white pair of white jeans paired with a bright top for the summer, don’t you? For me, white jeans replace my denim jeans for the summer and I feel like I wear them with everything – bright tops, stripes, neutrals. And I feel like I wear them to everything – weekend events, afternoon walks, and even dressed up for a night on the town. Here is how I’ll be wearing my white jeans this weekend in celebration of the (unofficial) start of summer:

What-to-Wear-Memorial-Day-W

1. Bright v-neck blouse from Zara; 2. Colorful vintage brooch from etsy. I’m into incorporating vintage brooches into outfits since my Brimfield finds over the weekend; 3. A nice bright orange/red nail – Hip-Anema from essie; 4. Sailors Knot Hinge Bangle from kate spade because I always equate nautical things with summer; 5. The colors and metallic stripe of this J. Crew Sea Bags medium tote just screams summer to me; 6. White Rockstar Super Skinny jeans from Old Navy because I personally cannot spend a lot on anything white because it gets dingy and/or stained so easily; and 7. Silver Saltwater Sandals for comfort while walking around all weekend.

I hope you have a great long weekend!

What to Wear – Cinco de Mayo

I’ve always loved Cinco de Mayo – according to Wikipedia, the holiday “originated with Mexican-American communities in the American West as a way to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War, and today the date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.”  It’s also the perfect excuse to drink margaritas and/or Coronas, wear a sombrero, and hang out at your local Mexican restaurant.  Even though I don’t need a special holiday to do any of those things, it’s a fun reason to have a fiesta anyways. I’ve given you ideas on what to eat on Cinco de Mayo, now here’s an idea of what to wear:

1. J.Crew Collection short-sleeve beaded sweater; 2. Sombrero hair clip from iParty; 3. Beautiful hand carved yellow Mexican amber ring from an etsy seller in Mexico; 4. Serape drink cozy from iParty; 5. Vintage tooled leather handbag, Mexican purse pouch satchel from etsy; 6. Vibrant orange pedal star skinny jeans from Closed; and 7. Authentic Mexican Huaraches from la Mariposa.

PS. Tomorrow I’ll have the Cinco de Mayo craft!

Daily Jewelry

daily-bracelets-2

Do you tend to wear the same jewelry every day?  Other than the occasional statement necklace (which I obviously love) I tend to wear the same few pieces of jewelry every day:

– Wedding rings and engagement ring on my left hand
– David Yurman rope ring on my right hand
– Watch
– Diamond stud earrings
– Diamond solitaire necklace

Recently though, I found a couple of simple bracelets that I’ve decided to add to the daily jewelry list:

A little “Z” bracelet from etsy that I wear for my little Z and a beaded bangle Alex and Ani. They’re simple enough for every day – worn alone or even if I add other bracelets too.

I Need a Pouf

Our family room is long with a step down in the middle which creates the feel of two separate rooms.  The top level is where we have our desktop computer, bookshelves and toys and therefore where our Z spends a lot of her time.  The lower level has our couch, TV, coffee table and a couple other odds and ends (this is where Maxine the cat hangs out, see below).

There is an interesting phenomenon with this set-up when we have guests over…everyone sits on the floor of the upper level.  Whether it’s to get down to play with the kids or to sit on the step and watch a sporting event on TV, the ground of our upper level is almost always a guest seat.

So, when I saw this adorable pouf on Pinterest, I was sold.  What a perfect piece to have in the family room to be a sometimes-table-surface and a sometimes-guest-seat so they don’t have to sit on the floor.  And it’s orange!  Which I’ve mentioned is the color of our family room and it would coordinate perfectly.  But, even after speaking with a rep from Nordstom at Home, I was told tragically this pouf in orange is sold out – they will not get any more in stock – ever.

And now I am on the hunt for a replacement.  Here are some contenders, what do you think?CB2-stripe-woven-swoon-poufThis striped blue one from CB2.  I like the handle, it’s totally moveable.

This Pull Up a Pouf from Land of Nod is really cute and the color would coordinate with our couch.

Also from Land of Nod this Grey Herringbone pouf, but not sure I like grey.

The pouf collection at West Elm, especially this Bazaar Pouf, is fantastic – but I’m not spending $249.

Cute chevron pattern from an etsy seller – she has tons of colors and patterns, so maybe this is the way to go.
