Couple Things…

Happy Friday! We have simple plans this weekend – dinner out, errands, visits to the park to play when it’s warm enough…  What are your plans?  Whatever you do, have a great weekend – here are a couple things from around the web this week:

Squash on toast?  I’m in.

This auction to raise money for victims of Hurricane Sandy has some unbelievable items…I’d love the dinner with GP and Mario!

I love stuffing, here are 50 recipes for Thanksgiving.

New York’s 5th Avenue is no longer the most expensive retail location

Coldplay and JayZ on NYE?  I want to go!

Oh, and you can bet we’ll be stopping at Starbucks a couple afternoons this weekend for the buy one get one free 2-5pm deal through Sunday…

Popcorn on the Cob

I hadn’t mentioned yet, but our CSA is over for the season, booo.  In our last pick-up we got popcorn – still on the cob, how interesting!

popcorn

You can make the popcorn while it’s still attached to the cob, you can either:

1. Put it in your microwave as is and let it pop (it will fly everywhere in your mic).

2. Put the cob in a paper bag and then microwave.

3. Third option: chicken out and shell the kernels off the cob and pop old school on your stove top.

kernels

We chickened out, mostly because we didn’t have a paper bag.  Getting the kernels off is no small feat – they come off one-by-one.

Growing up we always cooked our popcorn this way…my mum and I in particular loved making popcorn as an evening treat.  Just put a couple Tsp of oil on the bottom of  heavy-bottomed frying pan, pour in a few Tbs of kernels, cover, and cook.  When you hear popping only sporadically, remove from heat.  Don’t take the cover off until you’re sure the kernels are done popping.  Salt immediately and serve hot!

On this night, we decided to make it a little sweet, like kettle corn, and added a bit of sugar (like a tsp or 2) to the kernels right after they were put in the pan.

Enjoy!

Sweet Silhouette

silouhette

We visited a silhouette artist a couple weeks ago and in about 2 minutes we had this cute cut-out of our sweet baby girl’s silhouette, with her little curls and all.  The artist just sat there – looking at her profile and cut free form with sharp scissors.  What an interesting talent!

This weekend I bought a bright red frame to put it in and now it sits on my bedside table adding another nice pop of red in our brown, teal, and red bedroom.

Monday Outfit

We’re hitting the park today since the weather will be so nice and warm around here this afternoon.  I am wearing my new, adorable polka dot sweater, similar colors and shape to the sweater below.  I’m wearing it with my Joe’s Jeans, neutral flats, and navy nails.  Have a great week!

Couple Things…

WEEKEND!  It’s been a hectic week in our house with work and whatnot so we are all thrilled it’s just about the weekend.  We don’t have much planned other than I have a little ladies lunch planned here followed by our final birthday celebration.  Birthday week in our house was fun, fun this year!

Here are a few things from around the web this week, I unintentionally have a holiday theme here:

These outfits are making me excited for the upcoming Holiday season…

Thanksgiving is just 2 1/2 weeks away!  You’re obviously serving turkey, but have you thought of your side dish recipes yet?

And this recipe for turkey osso bucco (halfway down the page) would be an interesting version of turkey serve!

And here are some Louis Vuitton holiday windows at a department store in Paris.

Night Out…

So right before I had our sweet baby girl last October, my parents gave my husband and I a “night on the town” for our birthdays (which are 3 days apart) meaning they’d take the baby overnight so we could have a night out.  So, we decided to “cash it in” this past weekend to celebrate our birthdays and had a blast!  We wanted to make use of our baby free time and do things we wouldn’t/couldn’t do with the baby. Here was our day and night away….

Monday Outfit

After a busy (FUN – more later) birthday weekend, lots to do today!  I think I’ll be in my baby bootcamp clothes until late in the day, which means workout pants, dry-fit top, sweatshirt and sneaks….oh, and of course my nails painted in Miss Fancy Pants.  Have a great week!

Couple Things…

After a week of birthday parties and Halloween celebrations, the party is NOT ending yet in our house.  With my husband’s birthday yesterday and mine on Sunday, we will be celebrating (and eating cake!) all weekend.  Can’t wait!

Have a great weekend, here are a couple things from around the web…

Did you eat too much Halloween candy?  Here’s how to burn it off.

If we have another hurricane, here’s a fun list of “use what’s in your fridge” recipe ideas

Maybe someone will make me this cake for my birthday!

I love these dressed up denim looks, especially the 2nd one
