What to Wear – Sunny Vacation!

We’re on vacation!  We left for Puerto Rico this morning and I can’t wait to be by the pool and then sitting on the beach.  I thought I’d share what to wear while you’re on vacation to a warm destination – hopefully you’re headed somewhere warm soon too!

1. Milly cover up; 2. Tory Burch sunglasses; 3.  Sun hat; 4. Roxy bikini; 5. Sunscreen; 6. Tory Burch flip flops; and 7. Cute Beach bag.

Baked French Toast

As I’ve mentioned, we had a little brunch with friends over the weekend that was a blast, btw.  We decided to make this awesome baked french toast for the occasion and it was delish.  It certainly isn’t on any New Year’s diets, but it’s a tasty treat if you’re up for it.

Baked French Toast
from Martha Stewart Living, November, 2010

6 large eggs
2 C milk
1/3 C heavy cream (we used half & half)
1/3 C plus 3 tablespoons sugar
1 Tsp pure vanilla extract
1 Tsp freshly grated nutmeg
1/2 Tsp coarse salt
10 slices day-old brioche (about 3/4 inch thick)
1 C pecans (coarsely chopped or crushed) (we omitted nuts)

Beat eggs in a bowl. Whisk in milk, heavy cream, 1/3 cup sugar, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and salt.

Working in batches, dip 10 slices day-old brioche into batter to coat.

Overlap brioche slices in a 9-by-13-inch ceramic or glass baking dish.

Pour remaining batter over top. Refrigerate, covered, for at least 2 hours (we left in the fridge overnight).

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Top with pecans and sprinkle with 3 tablespoons sugar (again, we omitted nuts). Bake, covered with parchment-lined foil, for 25 minutes. Uncover; bake until top is golden brown and crunchy, 20 to 25 minutes more. Serve with syrup.

Enjoy!

Monday Outfit

Another chilly day around here and we have lots to do and errands to run!  I am wearing bright jeans with a cozy gray sweater, Steve Madden knee boots, bangles, and a flowery scarf, similar to the one below.  Have a great week!

Couple Things…

We don’t have much planned this weekend other than friends coming over for brunch on Sunday.  Have a great one –  here are a few links from around the web this week:

Today is National Spaghetti day – we actually had spaghetti last night made with our favorite homemade sauce.

Some New Year’s Resolution ideas for families. I personally don’t make resolutions but to each his own!

GAP buys Intermix, interesting…

We’re going to make something like this French Toast for our brunch this weekend…yum!

Filling in important dates into this calendar is one of my favorite new year activities.

I am interested in trying Williams-Sonoma’s new wellness line of healthier food.

I am also excited to see the new season of Biggest Loser this weekend – Jillian is back!

Tricks of the Trade – Pine Sap Removal

Happy New Year!  I took a couple days off from posting, but now that it’s a new year I thought I’d come back and bring you a great trick I learned just yesterday.

We came home from a weekend away skiing and enjoying some downtime and decided to take down all of our Christmas decor.  Well, our tree this year has been dripping pine sap and of course, when I was kneeling on the ground, I knelt right in a big drop of it.  I thought my pants would be ruined (and was so annoyed since they are my favorite jeans to wear when I’m tucking jeans into boots), but I found out that hand sanitizer takes the sap out of clothes.  AND it actually works.

Just put a drop on the sap, rub it in, wait a second, and the sap sort of dissolves.  Then wash and dry as usual.  Pants saved!

Couple Things…

We’re going to take advantage of all the new snow and hit the slopes this weekend, what are you up to?  I can’t believe it’s almost 2013!!!

The last of our Christmas Eve cheesecake…it was SO good, Martha’s recipe, of course.

Interesting article on truffles…yum.
