What to Wear – Mom’s Night Out

I went out for a Mom’s Night Out last week with all the gals from Baby Bootcamp at a painting place where you can snack and drink wine as you paint – and course we talked about our babies the entire time.  We had a blast and it was nice seeing everyone dolled up in place of our usual workout wear.

I thought I’d throw together an outfit perfect for a mom’s night out when you can wear things you can’t wear with your baby – like a bulky cocktail ring, ornate sweater, and things in your hair.

1. J. Crew sweater; 2. Cute hair accessories; 3. Mommy’s Time Out wine; 4. Cocktail ring; 5. Black skinny leg jeans; 6. Black knee boots from Seychelles; and 7. Louis Vuitton speedy bag.

Mini Angel Food Cakes

For Christmas, a friend of mine got me a cute mini bundt cake pan made by Nordic Ware.  A few months before, I had seen an episode of Martha Stewart that was dedicated to Nordic Ware – their 65-year history, quality of US made product, and the many (you wouldn’t believe how many) styles of bundt pans they make.  Anyway, from that day I was intrigued and thought I should add some Nordic Ware to our bake-wear collection.  This one would be cute for Valentine’s Day.

So how pleased was I to get this little guy for Christmas?

This past weekend I made angel food cake in the pan.  The mini bundts are the perfect dessert size for one.  And since it’s not fun to have plain angel food cake, I topped some with macerated strawberries and whipped cream to make strawberry shortcake.  I also made some with chocolate chips!

A few notes:
– grease and flower a bundt pan like this very well.  You can imagine how the cake sticks in all the little nooks.
– this is such a pain to clean (again, with above mentioned nooks), I suggest letting it soak overnight.
– You can make angel food cake from scratch, but I didn’t know what to do with 12 leftover egg yolks, so I bought a mix.

Monday Outfit

I got these great new booties at DSW over the weekend…for $4!!  They were on sale and then I had some old reward dollars that were expired that they still let me use.  Score!

Anyway, I am wearing them today with my fave Citizens jeans, plaid top, little necklace, red nails, and warm SmartWools, similar to the ones below.  Have a great week!

Couple Things…

Made a heart painting at our Bootcamp Mom’s Night Out last night!

Almost the weekend! My husband and I have a date night tonight to see Zero Dark Thirty – not really a date-y movie, but we’re dying to see it.  Then we might hibernate inside the rest of the weekend since it’s going to be freeeeeezing still around here.  Have a great weekend!  Here are some fun links:

Recipe Re-Do

I first shared this recipe with you in March, 2011.  We love this dish and have made it a few times since.  This week, even though it’s brutally cold out, we are on a kick of making light yet delicious things for dinner.  And since black beans seem to be the baby’s new favorite food, it was a must to make for dinner.  I thought I’d share some new pics and encourage you to try this yummy dish!

Saute the onion, garlic, red peppers, and corn.
After you add the black beans, squeeze in the juice of half a lime.
Meanwhile, grill the salmon.
Let the spinach wilt.

Serve the salmon on top of the bean/corn/spinach mix. Enjoy! Original post with recipe.

Couple Things…

We are still recovering from not being on vacation anymore… I know, what a problem to have.   Have a great long weekend and Martin Luther King, Jr day!

What to Wear – Stripes

So I’ve mentioned before how much I like polka dots, but I also have a thing for stripes.  I love a simple striped sailor shirt with jeans – it’s my go-to weekend wear. And in the summer I love the look with white pants!  Here’s a little round-up of some other fun striped items…

1. Cute and preppy weekly planner; 2. Striped sequin tee from J.Crew; 3. Interesting scarf; 4. kate spade striped iPhone case; 5. Striped toothpick jeans from tibi; 6. Clare Vivier clutch; 7. Striped pumps; and 8. Jacket.

Travel Purse

I always struggle with purses when I travel – you need one for the plane, something for the day, and maybe something for dinner or the evening if you plan on going out.  Well, I got this great kate spade (similar styles here) handbag for Christmas – it can we worn as a cross-body bag for easy travel, or you can take the strap off and carry by the handles for an evening bag.  It’s also huge so it fits everything (even toys and snacks for babies!).  It’s the only purse I brought to Puerto Rico!

Cross-body style – great for taking all your stuff for the plane ride and your hands can be free to say, push a stroller or change a diaper.
Strap removed for a night out!
